Small terraced town garden

Location: Leamington Spa

Small terraced town garden design in Stratford-Upon-Avon

The Brief

The client wanted to bring a feeling of sophistication and individuality to their garden.

The existing terraces were to remain for practical purposes. They had a hot tub that needed to be included and wanted an ‘Endless swimming pool’ positioned within the garden. They also wanted to have a koi pool on the lower terrace.

The Design

After the brief from the client it became clear that they liked bold structural plants that would lend themselves to an exotic, 'oriental' style of garden.

The existing upper terrace was replaced with a new stone ‘rusty slate’ paving. The existing hot tub was partially sunk into the terrace to lower its visual dominance and a timber surround allowed access for maintenance.

Large black pots planted with a selection of bamboos, Phormiums and grasses created a feeling of unity to the top terrace. Large bamboo poles with oriental tie detail were used to create the top barrier.

A small pool with a stainless-steel blade waterfall cascades from the top terrace into the lower koi pool, connecting the two terraces.

A small timber jetty allows the client to sit and enjoy the lower terrace and koi pool.
